A shingle is manufactured with tar strips along the length of the shingle. The purpose is to create adhesion between two shingles when they are installed, prevent wind damange and leakage from driven rain. When the shingles are packaged in a bundle, the plastic stip prevents the shingles from adhearing together. It does not need to be removed during installation.
This is simply not the case, although some characteristics of shingles are the same. Each manufactuerer will offer various styles, weights, warranties and ingredients.

Although eavestroughs may seem like a separate item, they play a large role in water management. It's a mistake to ignore them when tyring to balance the roof system.
